Summary
In the location of Little Rock, Arkansas; In the year of 1957, Melba Patillo, 15 years old, entered Central High for the first time. In an all white school, Melba is one of the 9 black students who were chosen to integrate following the decision of Brown v. Board. She and the other 8 are faced with a monstrous mob of angry segregationists, a Governor who brings in the national guard to protest their entrance, and a whole school of students who insult and harass them day by day.
With only several people helping her get through this ordeal, Melba stays strong and tries to manage getting through the school year.
